Retreat Theme

Strengthening our connection with one another and with the Earth
Technology offers us countless ways to stay connected, yet many of us continue to feel disconnected and alone. Our days are filled with screens, messages, and constant stimulation, leaving little space to pause, breathe, and truly arrive in the present moment.
This retreat is an invitation to slow down and cultivate mindfulness as a way of coming home - to the body, to the breath, and to the quiet wisdom within. Together, we will explore gentle embodied practices that help us restore balance and create a personal peace treaty with ourselves - softening inner conflict, meeting our experience with compassion, and learning to listen deeply.
Through time spent in nature, we will deepen our relationship with the Earth, allowing its rhythms to steady us and remind us that we are part of something much larger. As we commune with the land beneath our feet and the living world around us, we remember that the art of living is rooted in connection - within, between, and globally.
Our Teachers
The retreat is led by four Sisters from European Institute of Applied Buddhism in Cologne. Sister Chiêu Nghiêm is a Dharma Teacher, joined by Sister Trăng Thành Tựu, Sister Trăng Chiếu Diệu, and Sister Trăng Thanh Nhã.
For several years, the Sisters have been practicing and teaching at EIAB together with the Dharma Teachers Thay Phap An and Sister Song Nghiem, who have visited the West Coast during many of Rosensanghan’s and Ljungsanghan’s autumn retreats.
The Sisters have a deep love for nature, outdoor walking meditation, and practices that cultivate mindful presence — all in harmony with the Plum Village tradition. They also bring experience from various countries and several Plum Village centers worldwide.
What Can You Expect from the Retreat?
The theme has been proposed by the Sisters, and additional themes may arise based on participants’ wishes.
The retreat includes practices and Dharma talks characteristic of the Plum Village tradition:
• Silent and guided sitting meditation
• Walking meditation in beautiful natural surroundings
• Mindful movements
• Deep relaxation
• Inspiring Dharma talks
• Group sharing (Dharma Sharing) on the retreat theme
• Locally sourced, lovingly prepared vegan meals by chef Tea Schipper, using vegetables grown by Helena von Bothmer at Kosters Trädgårdar

Bonus
Beyond the retreat theme itself, what often becomes most precious is the supportive and peaceful atmosphere that arises through shared meditation, silent meals together, and mindful walks in the beautiful surroundings.
Practicing meditation and the other exercises together makes it easier to cultivate and sustain presence.
