Description of the course/retreat:

Arriving in the Here and Now – An Introduction to Mindfulness Practice

In our daily lives, our minds are often already occupied with the next appointment, the things we still need to do, or events that happened in the past. Mindfulness invites us to come back to where our life is actually taking place: the present moment.

This retreat is especially intended for people who would like to discover mindfulness and meditation or deepen their first experiences of practice. In a calm and supportive atmosphere, we will explore the foundations of mindfulness practice step by step.

We begin with something very simple that is always available to us: our breath. By learning to breathe consciously and become aware of our body, we can settle and come back into deeper contact with ourselves. From there, we will explore different forms of meditation and mindfulness – while sitting and walking, as well as while eating and engaging in other activities

of daily life.

We will also become acquainted with different approaches to Buddhist meditation. Elements of Metta, the practice of loving-kindness, help us cultivate friendliness and compassion towards ourselves and others. Vipassana practice invites us to observe our body, feelings and thoughts with awareness and to understand them more deeply. In Zazen, silent sitting meditation, we practise simply being present without needing to add anything to the moment.

Mindfulness does not mean that we have to achieve a special state. Rather, we learn to meet whatever is present with openness and kindness. In this way, we can discover how even the simple moments of our everyday lives can become moments of meditation.

Alongside sitting and walking meditation, the retreat will include mindful movement, deep relaxation and periods of silence. In the afternoons, there will be time for mindful sharing, questions and the experiences of participants. Together, we will also explore simple and realistic ways of integrating mindfulness practice into our daily lives after the retreat.

No previous experience is required. The retreat offers a supportive space to slow down, find stillness and become familiar with the foundations of mindfulness practice.

Arriving in the here and now – not as a destination we need to reach someday, but as a possibility that is available to us anew with every breath.
