K1920-1 : MOVING ALONG THE SPIRITUAL PATH WITH JOY, EASE AND PERSERVERANCE – How to cultivate and take care of our Bodhicitta

16.05.2019 - 19.05.2019

Course with Thay Phap An und Sister Song Nghiem

We all need a spiritual practice to cultivate peace, joy, happiness, understanding and loving kindness in ourselves. Without a spiritual practice we could not learn to bring these qualities into our own lives and into the life of our family and society.
In times of suffering, spiritual practice can help us not to get bogged down in our worries and despair. We no longer feel so lost; our practice gives us the feeling that we can touch ground beneath our feet. We feel firmer, supported and more stable.
But frequently, after any length of intensive spiritual practice, we tire. We feel bored or disappointed and we are no longer as enthusiastic as we were at the beginning. We can also lose ourselves on the spiritual path. We choose the wrong practice, follow the wrong teachers. We jump from one teacher to the other, change from one tradition to the next and no longer know which spiritual path is right for us.
In this course we will learn to recognise our true spiritual teachers, those who have shown us the way of love and understanding, have supported our development and accompanied us along the path. We will learn to recognize and cultivate our Bodhicitta.
By living mindfully, with understanding and forgiveness and with an inner smile that arises from the joy of the here and now, we can learn to open our hearts for the power of understanding and loving kindness of our spiritual teachers.

Daily meditation, recitation of the sutras and the practice of touching the earth will help us learn to connect with our spiritual roots. In this way we can transform the suffering in us and in the world.
Vesak, the celebration of the Buddha’s birthday on 19 May, is a highpoint of this course which will enable us to deepen our connection with our spiritual ancestors.

Course language: English and German
Please note:
This course is open for all friends of the EIAB. It will take place within the context of the visit by members of our Sangha from Hong Kong. We are very happy that they will be visiting the EIAB for two weeks.
In Asian Buddhist culture there is a deeply anchored conviction that when we live for a period of time as a monk or nun in a monastery, we acquire spiritual merit that we dedicate to our ancestors.
