1. Accommodation and contribution
The course fee includes accommodation, meals, incidental costs, course fees and is calculated per night and per person. Here you can find the different accommodation options and their prices:

For safety reasons, the options for camper and commuter have been cancelled.
A room with private shower and toilet can only be booked if all participants are registered at the time of registration.
2. Duration of participation in a retreat or course
Participation in the entire course is required. Earlier or later attendance is not possible for organizational reasons.
3. Reduction
Discounts are possible for people in financial difficulties as well as for students and apprentices. You can select this option as "reduction" when registering online and then please send us a simple photo of an ID or document by email to registrar@eiab.eu. Please note, however, that this option is only available for rooms without private showers and toilets.
4. Registration procedure
a. Register for the course using the online registration form.
b. If there are any problems with your course booking, we will contact you as soon as possible.
c. Within 2 days of your booking, you will receive an official confirmation by email with all payment details. If you do not receive such confirmation, something is wrong and we ask you to contact us for verification.
d. Approximately 7 days before the start of the retreat, we will send you an announcement as to whether or not the course will take place and further important information about the EIAB.

6. Dress code:
EIAB is both a Buddhist institute and a Buddhist monastery. Therefore, the dress code is the one that visitors must adhere to: Casual, low-key, restrained, not colorful, not flashy and loose, while keeping temperatures in mind.
7. Bed linen and towels
From 2023 bed linen will not be provided.
Each set of bed linen costs 10 €. If you bring your own, please let us know by email.
Hand towels are provided.
Please bring your own bath towels.
9. Arrival and departure times
Courses start at 19:30 on the first day and end after lunch on the last day (around 2 pm).
The arrival time on the first day is between 15:00 and 18:00. Dinner usually starts at 18:00, except for our large retreats which may start at 17:30.
If a course exceptionally starts at a different time, this will be clearly mentioned in the course description.
10. General stay:
The programme for a stay outside the course dates has long been cancelled. At present, we do not see any possibility of reinstating such a programme.
11. Cancellation and termination conditions
a. Cancellation by the European Institute of Applied Buddhism (hereafter referred to as EIAB):
The EIAB reserves the right to cancel an event at short notice if the minimum number of participants of 10 per course is not reached, if the course leaders are unable to attend or in the case of other unforeseen events. Participants will be informed of this in good time and in an appropriate manner. In the event of a cancellation on the part of the EIAB, the participation fee already paid will be refunded in full. There shall be no further claims for damages.
b. Cancellation, withdrawal or termination by participants
Cancellations must be submitted in writing in all cases. If you cancel up to ten days before the arrival day, we will charge a fee of 50€ and transfer back the rest of your payment.
A cancellation fee of 100% of the participation fee will be charged for cancellations 0 to 7 days before the start of the course.
Getting a refund is not possible when leaving a course or retreat earlier.
12. Further information
Our lay course leaders are dependent on donations to cover their living expenses. We therefore ask that a donation be made to the respective teacher at the end of a course with lay course leaders. The amount of the donation is at the discretion of each individual.
The stay at the European Institute of Applied Buddhism as well as the participation in the courses and retreats is at one's own responsibility. The EIAB accepts no liability for personal injury or damage to property.
* Transportation: The EIAB is about 70km east of Cologne. Nearby stations are Schladern (12km) and Hennef (32km ) away.
There is a bus from both Schladern as well as Hennef to Waldbroel. They go to the bus station in Waldbroel, which is 15 to 20 minutes walking distance from the EIAB. The bus stop with the shortest distance to EIAB is " Waldbrol Kreisparkasse " and " Waldbroel hospital ", about 5 min. to 10 min. walking distance.

* Lodging: Since you might be together with other people in a room, it's good if you bring " earplugs " and an eye mask for sleeping - just in case . Switching to another room during a retreat is usually not possible. The EIAB is a community of practice, we also want to encourage you to practice the art of living together harmoniously. For your sleeping comfort during the winter it is good to bring a water bottle. It is not possible to bring pets to the EIAB.
* Food: Please do not bring alcoholic beverages to our center. The same applies to non-vegetarian foods. All meals at EIAB are vegan ( no eggs or dairy, etc.). We can not provide special dietary requirements. if necessary, please bring your own food for your special diet.
* Clothing: Out of respect for the monks, nuns, and the other retreatants, we would ask you to wear clothes that cover the shoulders and legs and that are casual, low-key, restrained, not colorful, not flashy, always keeping temperatures in mind. For the practice of sitting meditation, it is good if you have not so tight pants.
Please also bring slippers for your convenience in coming in and out of the meditation hall.

Brief explanation: What is the course number (e.g. K2427-1)?
1st and 2nd digit = the current year (2024)
3rd and 4th digit = the calendar week (a year has 52 weeks)
5th digit = distinguishes the course from other courses that take place on this weekend.
e.g.: K2427-1 : In the year 2024; the 27th week of this year; the first (of several courses) on this weekend.

If you are travelling alone: Accommodation is usually shared with another person (of the same gender). More on this below under point 12.
The following prices are per night and per person. Everything is included: accommodation, meals, course fees.
If your course leader is not a monk or nun, we ask that you make a donation to them (towards the end of the course), as they are often dependent on donations for their livelihood. The amount of the donation is at your own decision.
If you do not bring your own bed linen/duvet covers, an additional €10 is to be paid - this can be selected in the booking form.
For security reasons, the options for camping etc. have been cancelled.

Out of respect for the monks, nuns and other retreat participants, we ask you to wear clothing that covers shoulders and legs and is casual, unobtrusive, restrained, not too colourful and not too flashy, while keeping an eye on the temperature. For the practice of sitting meditation we recommend to not wear trousers that are too tight.

If you do not bring your own bed linen/duvet covers, you are asked to pay €10 - this can be selected on the booking form.
Towels are provided.
Please bring your own bath towels.

The EIAB reserves the right to cancel an event at short notice if the minimum number of 10 participants per course is not reached, if the course leader is unable to attend or in the event of other unforeseen circumstances. Participants will be informed of this by e-mail one week before the start of the course. In the event of cancellation by the EIAB, the participation fee already paid will be refunded in full. No further claims for damages will arise.
b. Cancellation, withdrawal or cancellation by the participants
Cancellations must always be submitted in writing. If you cancel up to seven days before the day of arrival, we will charge a fee of €50 and refund the remaining amount. For cancellations 0 to 7 days before the start of the course, a cancellation fee of 100% of the participation fee will be charged.
A refund is not possible if you leave a course or retreat earlier.
12. Further information
Your stay at the EIAB and participation in the courses and retreats is at your own risk. The EIAB accepts no liability for personal injury or damage to property. If you have any concerns about your mental or physical condition, please contact us before you register!
If you are coming alone, i.e. not as a group: Accommodation is usually shared with another person (of the same gender). Sharing a space with other people gives us the opportunity to develop understanding and compassion for ourselves and for those we live with. By being mindful of the people we share a space with, we learn to recognize and appreciate their positive qualities and create a harmonious atmosphere.
It is important that you bring earplugs for sleeping - just in case. Moving to another room during a retreat is normally not possible.
It is not possible to bring pets to the EIAB!
Food: All meals are vegan (no animal products such as dairy products).
Unfortunately, we cannot consider special diets/allergies (e.g. gluten-free).
You are welcome to bring any medication or food (supplements) you need, but please do not bring non-vegetarian food or alcoholic drinks.
